A Quasi-static Nucleation Model. 2. Application of the Model to Some Mechanisms of Ice Generation

V. I. Bekryaev and S. V. Kryukova

A model of ice heterogeneous nucleation is developed basing on assumption of embryo-size quasi-static distribution. When the system becomes meta-stable (increased supersaturation or supercooling), the largest embryos become viable. The viable embryo number and generation rate are estimated for direct sublimation of vapor onto the surface of the ice-generating nucleus and for immersion freezing. The calculation results are compared against experimental data.
