A new approach to the year-round daily monitoring of sea ice properties based on the multispectral measurements of the AMSU satellite radiometer is considered. It is revealed that the increase in the values of the sea ice scattering index and its anomalously high variability are observed during the warm period of the year. The analysis of main reasons influencing the variations of the sea ice scattering index in different seasons is carried out. The recommendations are proposed on the identification of ice properties on the maps of the sea ice scattering index plotted for the warm, cold, and transition periods.
