MESOSCALE METEOROLOGICAL PROCESSES IN THE BLACK SEA COASTAL REGION IN SUMMER

G. V. Surkova, V. S. Arkhipkin, and S. S. Mukhametov

Mesoscale meteorological processes and air—sea interaction in the northeastern part of the Black Sea coastal region are investigated for summer conditions on the basis of expeditionary measurements. The influence of orography on the local atmospheric circulation is studied. High time resolution of measurements (5 min) made it possible to detect short-term disturbances in the diurnal cycle of the main meteorological elements, which are caused by the orographic features of the coastal region, and to detail characteristic features of breeze circulation in the region. The mutual influence of the atmosphere and the sea in the coastal region is studied on a scale of daily variations using correlation and phase analyses.
