ESTIMATION OF PARAMETERS OF PHYSICALLY BASED MODELS OF RUNOFF GENERATION UNDER INSUFFICIENCY OF HYDROLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS

L. S. Kuchment and A. N. Gelfan

The possibility of using a priori information to reduce hydrological observation series needed for calibration of physically based models of runoff generation has been studied. It is shown that using measurements and runoff generation models in proxy-basins allows one to limit the number of calibrated parameters to 3—4; from 2 to 3 years of runoff measurements are sufficient for calibration in this case. Investigations have been carried out with the physically based model of runoff generation in Kolyma and Seim river basins. Possibilities of using observations at the water-balance stations and experimental catchments as a priori data for assigning parameters of the models have been demonstrated.
