MODELING THE MOISTURE RETENTION CAPACITY OF SOIL WITH AGRICULTURAL AND HYDROLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

R. A. Poluektov and V. V. Terleev

A method is proposed for calculating the moisture retention capacity of the soil, which is the main hydrophysical characteristic (MHC), by using a set of standard agrophysical indices. Methods are described that compensate data when experimental values of some indices necessary for the calculation are missing. A computer system is developed that allows this work to be automated. Input data of the system are represented by measured agricultural and physical indices, which, while being normally accessible, do not form a complete data set for the MHC modeling, and output data represent calculated agricultural and hydrological characteristics allowing the MHC model parameters to be estimated along with initial data. The system implements four major and four additional versions of calculating agricultural and hydrological characteristics.
