SIMULATION OF CLIMATIC THERMOHALINE CIRCULATION IN THE CASPIAN SEA

S. K. Popov

Considered are results of calculations of monthly mean climatic fields of sea level and currents attributable to irregular temperature and salinity distribution. A three-dimensional free-surface primitive equation model is used for calculations. Currents are calculated with a method of hydrodynamic diagnosis and adjustment using observational temperature and salinity fields. The adjusted temperature, salinity, and velocity fields for different months on a grid with a resolution of 3 × 3 mile at 30 levels can be used as background values for calculation of wind surges.
