CLIMATIC REGIONALIZING WITH EXPERT-STATISTICAL METHODS. FORMULATION OF THE PROBLEM

V. B. Korobov and L. Yu. Vasil'ev

For a number of scientific and applied purposes, climatic regionalizing is necessary. Traditionally, this is carried out by selecting dominant factors or on the basis of certain metrics, whose common deficiencies are strong requirements to the initial data and difficulties with interpretation of the results. Recently, for classification problems, which the climatic regionalizing problem belongs to, methods have been applied which allow one to compare the sums of gathered points for the areas. As a development of these ideas, an approach is proposed that takes into account the contribution of every influencing factor to the final result by means of weighting coefficients. The weighting coefficients are calculated by the hierarchy analysis method based upon the paired comparison of factors. The approach allows deriving a logical, elegant sequence of operations and procedures for climatic regionalizing.
