CALCULATION OF VERTICAL MIXING USING A MULTILAYERED MODEL OF A RESERVOIR

V. V. Puklakov and N. G. Puklakova

Specific features of vertical turbulent mixing in reservoirs and methods of its description in mathematical models are discussed. An algorithm of vertical mixing in a multilayered box model of a reservoir (the heat and mass exchange model) is proposed. The algorithm takes into account effective wind mixing and forced and free convection. Verification results have shown that the model provides an adequate reproduction of the hydrological regime of the weak-drainage Moskva River reservoirs and a less satisfactory description of the drainage Gorkii reservoir, in most of which the vertical mixing is determined by the velocity of a discharge current. An algorithm is proposed for taking into account dynamic mixing in the discharge current of a reservoir. It is shown that the introduction of this algorithm into the multilayered box model appreciably improves the calculation results for drainage reservoirs.
