MODELING OF CONSEQUENCES OF POSSIBLE BURIAL OF TOXICANTS IN THE BLACK SEA ABYSSAL ZONE

Possible spreading of radioactive substances from a container at the bottom in the Black Sea abyssal zone is analyzed. It is demonstrated that the sea can be contaminated in three stages: the first one is the spreading of radioactive waters in the bottom 30-m layer; the second stage is their rise along the eastern continental slope; and the third stage is the contamination of the entire sea. The contaminated water spreading in different layers is analyzed. It is shown that the upper 100-m layer is contaminated by radioactive waters transported by the Main Black Sea Current. Below 200 m, the contamination is also a result of the sink of surface waters near the Anatolian coast and at the depth drop on the northwestern shelf.
