ANALYSIS OF TEMPERATURE PROFILES OF THE ATMOSPHERIC BOUNDARY LAYER IN A SUBURB AND THE MEGAPOLIS

A comparative analysis of the temperature profiles in the lower part of the atmosphere (up to 600 m) in central Moscow and its outskirts (the town of Dolgoprudnyi) is performed. The analysis is based on data measured with a meteorological temperature profiler MTP-5. The analysis of empirical orthogonal function (EOF) coefficients shows correlation with temperature inversions. The EOF expansion and singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis of temperature anomalies demonstrated that the value of temperature anomaly decreases with height in winter and increases in summer. The influence of the megapolis on the formation of a “heat island” is stronger in winter.
