ESTIMATION OF THE ACCURACY OF A MODEL FOR CALCULATIONS OF SOIL WATER STORAGE DYNAMICS

N. A. Shumova

A model describing the soil water storage dynamics during the freeze-free period, on a scale of an agricultural field and with a 10-day time step, is estimated. Calculated values of the soil water storage in a 1-m soil layer are compared with the respective values measured at agrometeorological stations. It is kept in mind that the standard deviation of the calculated values of soil water storage from the measured ones includes the root-mean-square errors of both calculations and measurements, the measurement error being due to a high spatial variability of soil water storage, measurements errors themselves, and the errors of the soil hydrophysical constants. Estimates of the root-mean-square errors of measurements at different values of soil water storage are used to estimate the root-mean-square error of the model calculations proper.
