A procedure for correcting prognostic precipitation fields using observational data is incorporated into the system supplying meteorological information to air pollution transport models. The procedure consists of three stages. The first stage is the quality control of station measurements of precipitation and their reduction to equal time intervals. The second is the objective analysis of precipitation on the analysis grid of an arbitrary horizontal resolution, with emphasis on the so called representativeness errors. The third stage is the correction of the vertical distribution of model precipitation. The algorithms are described, and the results of calculations from 1996 data are given. They demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed procedures.
