MODELING OF THE WATER RETENTION CAPACITY AND DIFFERENTIAL MOISTURE CAPACITY OF SOIL

R. A. Poluektov and V. V. Terleev

There are two ways to describe the water retention capacity of soil, i.e., a relation between the capillary sorption potential of soil moisture and volumetric water content. One is the approximation of a set of experimental data by an appropriate analytical relation. The other can be based on some theoretical concept using a hypothesis of the structure of porous media. In this paper, the second approach is used. The pore size distribution is assumed to be lognormal. That enabled us to derive the required relation and a formula for differential moisture capacity of soil.
