FLOODS ON THE RIVERS OF RUSSIA: THEIR FORMATION AND ZONING

The paper presents the results of investigations of floods in Russia with the view of flood classification and zoning according to their genesis and an index characterizing the excess of computed maximum discharges the exceedance probability of which is less than 10% over their long-term means. The average duration of water stand in river floodplains is estimated for different regions. The analysis results are used to identify regions where floods are most dangerous.
