SIMULATION OF ADMIXTURE DISPERSION FROM LINEAR AND POINT SOURCES IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC

A. A. Zelenko, Yu. D. Resnyanskii, and B. S. Strukov

Results of numerical experiments on the simulation of admixture dispersion in the North Atlantic and adjacent seas are presented for several hypothetical scenarios of admixture penetration into the ocean. The calculation is based on a numerical solution of the advection-diffusion equation. A three-dimensional pattern of the ocean currents is determined from an ocean general circulation model using daily data on atmospheric impacts on the water surface. The setting of quasi-stationary states is traced and their relation to bottom topography and the ocean current patterns is examined.
