THE RELATION OF DIURNAL VARIATION OF SURFACE METEOROLOGICAL PARAMETERS WITH THEIR LOW-FREQUENCY

V. N. Ivanov and A. V. Khokhlova

The 44-year time series of surface temperature, pressure, absolute humidity, total and low level cloudiness, and wind velocity components for three meteorological stations in European Russia are processed with spectral analysis to detect low-frequency modes in the diurnal variation of meteorological elements. Spectra of diurnal variation amplitudes demonstrate their dependence on spectra of meteorological elements themselves and the presence of low-frequency modes with periods from a few days up to 2–4 years. The interaction of processes of various scales with the diurnal variation of meteorological elements is of amplitude modulation character. The interaction between individual scales of different meteorological elements is selective.
