The paper examines a space distribution and frequency of hazardous hydrometeorological phenomena combined into a single group of destructive winds (strong winds, squalls, hurricanes, whirlwinds) in the warm period (April to October) of 1991-2000 and also the character of wind damage and problems arising in connection with this in various economic sectors by example of adverse events hitting large areas or resulting in considerable economic losses. Analysis of time variability of the number of such events and of their space distribution has been made for all Russia's economic regions. In the European part of Russia the total number of these phenomena is shown to have increased over the last decade.
