LONG-TERM VARIABILITY AND RELATION OF DISCHARGES OF THE PACIFIC NORTH TRADE CURRENT AND INTERTRADE COUNTERCURRENT

A. D. Nelezin

The wintertime variability of discharges of the Pacific North Trade Current and Intertrade (North Equatorial) Countercurrent in the 0-1000 m layer is considered based on long-term observations (1967-1991) along 137°E. The calculations made it possible to establish the prevailing tendencies in the long-term changes. Trend components and a long-term component of temporal fluctuations are singled out. The calculated correlation coefficients are indicative of a relatively close relationship between long-term changes in water discharges of the North Trade Current and the Intertrade Countercurrent.
