PREDICTION OF MAXIMUM WATER LEVELS DURING ICE JAMS ON MEDIUM-SIZED RIVERS

V. A. Buzin

A new method is proposed for forecasting maximum ice-jam water levels on medium-sized rivers. The method is based on dependence of maximum ice-jam water levels on numerical indicators of development of spring flood, the water-carrying capacity of the channel before river breakup, and local conditions of ice jamming. A distinctive feature of this method is the precalculation of a jam-forming discharge from hydrological information only at the range of calculation.
