NUMERICAL ALGORITHM OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL ADAPTATION OF LARGE-SCALE WIND FIELD TO LOCAL RELIEF FEATURES

An algorithm is proposed for a two-dimensional adaptation of a large-scale wind field to a relief specified on a finer grid. The algorithm is based on a variational principle that provides minimum mean-square differences between calculated and initial wind at the large-scale grid points. The algorithm is realized using an efficient iterative numerical scheme that allows the solution of many applied problems even with a PC. Presented are the results of numerical experiments with both model and real relief.
