STUDY OF THE INTERACTION OF BINARY CYCLONIC VORTICES IN A BAROTROPIC ATMOSPHERIC MODEL

A. E. Pokhil and A. V. Nikolaeva

The paper completes a large series of studies of the interaction of a pair of similar cyclonic vortices in a homogeneous field on the f-plane in a barotropic atmospheric model. A change in the angle of relative rotation of a pair of interacting vortices around their centroid and in the distance between vortex centers in the course of the experiment has been studied depending on the initial distance between them, tangential wind velocity on the radius of maximum winds, and vortex structure. Intervals of characteristics of the interacting vortices differing from each other by interaction type (attraction or repulsion) are found. Criteria defining these intervals are formulated.
