M. V. Shatunova, G. S. Rivin, and I. A. Rozinkina

Variations of visibility can be caused by various meteorological phenomena such as fog, heavy precipitation, etc. The forecasting of visibility using the synoptic approach can be based on the results of numerical prediction of such meteorological parameters as relative humidity and the rate and phase of precipitation. Assessed is the possibility of using the COSMO-Ru1 model output data with the grid resolution of 1.1 km for the synoptic forecasting of visibility on February 16–18, 2014 when cloud formation on the mountain slopes and the heavy snowfall were registered.
