Automated Forecasting of Waterspouts off the Black Sea Coast of Russia and Its Performance Assessment

The automated forecasting of waterspouts off the Black Sea coast is considered. The technique for the short-range forecasting of waterspout-risk situations and for the detection of water- spout-risk areas based on weather radar data in real time are presented. The results of the author’s testing of the technique for the period from August 2017 to October 2018 are given. A possibility of the automated preparation of waterspout warnings is substantiated. The prospects of using the experience gained for the development of the automated tornado forecasting system for the European part of Russia are analyzed.
