BURSTS OF ULTRAFINE AEROSOL PARTICLES IN THE ATMOSPHERE

V. V. Smirnov, J. Salm, J. Makela, and J. Paatero

The burst emission of atmospheric aerosol particles in the size range from 3 to 100 nm is studied during the international experiment ESUP (Finland, spring 2000). Its is shown for the first time that each formation of nanoparticles is preceded by emissions of atmospheric intermediate ions of mobility 0.8—0.25 cm2/(V ∙ s). Within the proposed physical model, it is concluded that nanoparticles may result from the association of light and intermediate ions.
