POSSIBLE USE OF 210Pb AND 137Cs AS RADIOACTIVE TRACERS FOR ASSESSMENT OF THE RATES OF EROSION AND ACCUMULATION

M. V. Markelov, V. N. Golosov, and E. D. Stukin

The possibility of application of the radioactive isotope of lead 210Pb for contemporary erosion and accumulation rate assessment in the upper parts of a drainage network (watershed slopes and small valley bottoms). The quantitative estimates of soil redistribution rates obtained for small watershed in a forest zone agree well with the results obtained with the traditional methods. It is shown that the proposed technique has some advantages over the radiocesium in regions of Chernobyl radioactive follout.
