PARAMETRIZATION OF SHORT-WAVE RADIATION TRANSFER IN SNOW-ICE COVER

O. M. Andreev and B. V. Ivanov

The role of the transmission coefficients in the penetration of short-wave solar radiation into the snow and ice cover is described. A simple relation of the transmission coefficients with thermophysical properties of snow and ice and model parameters (a vertical grid step) is proposed. The results provide a means to more correctly determine the amount of solar radiation penetrating the snow and ice and to more adequately reproduce a physical pattern of the melting of sea ice cover.
