CALCULATION OF THE EVOLUTION AND MOTION OF TROPICAL CYCLONE PAIRS IN THE PACIFIC WITH THE ETA MODEL

A. E. Pokhil and A. D. Naumov

The possibility of taking into account the multiple interaction between tropical cyclones (TCs) when forecasting their tracks in the northwestern Pacific is studied on the basis of calculations of the pressure and wind fields by the ETA model and a further comparison of the results with GMS satellite information and real TC tracks. The analysis and the forecast of the TC behavior have shown a possibility of explaining the strange motion and sudden disappearance of vortices. Tracks of real typhoons in the 2002 typhoon season that are most interesting for investigation of the TC interaction are considered.
