PROBABILISTIC INTERPRETATION OF THE SHORT-RANGE TEMPERATURE FORECAST (BY THE EXAMPLE OF ST. PETERSBURG)

V. I. Vorob'ov and V. D. Enikeeva

Transition is considered to the probabilistic interpretation of a categorical short-range temperature forecast on the basis of the “model output statistics” (MOS) concept. It is shown that transition to the probabilistic formulation of a multiphase forecast extends the possibilities of its using in providing meteorological information for a wide range of customers and stimulates their interest in this type of information.
