STUDY OF PLAN DEFORMATIONS OF MEANDERING RIVER CHANNELS

Critical analysis of existing concepts and methods for calculation of plan deformations of meandering channels shows that most of them are not valid. A technique based on comparison or decoding of charts and photomaps and litho- and dendrochronological approaches used for dating relief elements of mainly accumulative banks have particular advantages. Empirical relationships between the rate of plan deformations and morphometric indices of river bends can also be used in practice. To develop a computational method based on balanced resedimentation of bed loads within a river bend is also promising.
