DISASTROUS FLOOD ON THE LENA RIVER NEAR LENSK IN 2001

Hydrometeorological conditions for ice jam formation and breaking are analyzed. The issued forecasts of extreme ice-jam stages which have never occurred before are validated. The results of the actions taken and the recommendations given to provide an adequate ice-jam floods on the Lena River are discussed.
