A STUDY OF DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS AND THE TEMPERATURE REGIME OF THE WATER SURFACE OF THE CASPIAN SEA

I. A. Repina

Based on measurements in the Caspian Sea, three temperature regimes of the sea-surface state are identified: a cold film, a warm film, and a mixed layer. A relationship is found between the temperature anomaly in the cold film and the total heat flux through the surface. Dependence of the roughness parameter and drag coefficient on the average wind speed is experimentally obtained for shallow water. It is found that the use of formulas which do not include a distortion of the logarithmic wind profile by atmospheric stratification leads to large errors in calculations of dynamic characteristics of the water surface, particularly in conditions of unstable stratification.
