SOME STATISTICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TROPICAL CYCLONES FOR THE PERIOD 1970—1999

The frequency of tropical cyclones (TC) in the Northern and Southern hemispheres for the last 30 years (1970—1999) is estimated from operational monitoring at the Hydrometeorological Research Center of Russian Federation. An analysis is made of TC frequency anomalies, extreme central pressure, and maximum winds. Some features of atmospheric and oceanic circulation in extreme TC years over the given period are obtained.
