The Grand Meeting:

the 125th Anniversary of the

Meterological Bulletin/Meteorologiya i Gidrologiya

February 17, 2016, Moscow

The meeting was opened by the Head of Roshydromet, the Chairman of Roshydromet Editorial Advisory Board A. F. Frolov. He noted the great role of the Russian Meteorological Bulletin which was published since January 1891 (and has become Meteorologiya i Gidrologiya since 1935) in the development of Russian meteorology. A. V. Frolov stressed that the journal is held in high respect among Russian and foreign specialists in hydrometeorology. It has been published in English in the USA since 1976 (Russian Meteorology and Hydrology).

Prof. V. V. Asmus, the editor-in-chief of Meteorologiya i Gidrologiya, made a presentation about the history of the journal. (look)

Greetings were made by: A. I. Bedritsky (Advisor of the President of the Russian Federation, Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues), M. V. Seliverstova (Head of Federal Agency for Water Resources), V. V. Udrish (Chief of Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation), the heads of Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Geographic Society, State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Russian State Hydrometeorological University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Perm State University, State Hydrological Institute, Taifun Scientific Industrial Association, All-Russian Research Institute of Agicultural Meteorology, et al.

The Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization P. Taalas congratulated the journal on the anniversary and noted that “Meteorologiya i Gidrologiya … is one of the most important scientific journals in its field, and not only in Russia, that covers the problems of meteorology, hydrology, environmental pollution and natural disasters. It is thanks to such journals as the Meteorological Bulletin/Meteorologiya i Gidrologiya that the hydrometeorological community can widely disseminate scientific findings and popularize meteorological science”.  (look).

Greetings were also received from National Hydrometeorological Services of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan as well as from Kazan Federal University, High-mountain Geophysical Institute, the Vernadskii Nongovernmental Ecological Foundation, and other organizations.

The speakers stressed that Meteorologiya i Gidrologiya (former Meteorological Bulletin) has high prestige in the scientific community and is the only monthly scientific and technical journal in the CIS that covers the main problems and achievments of Russian and global hydrometeorological science and practice.
